How Do All-On-4 Implants Work?

Illustration of All-On-4

Typically, we can use 4 dental implants in Lexington to replace an entire row of teeth, which is why this procedure is called All-On-4. We make this possible by finding the strongest areas of your jawbone so we can place all of your implants during the same appointment. After surgery, we’ll give you a temporary denture to maintain your appearance. Once your implants have completely healed, successfully fusing to your jawbone, you’ll come back into our office for your permanent restoration. The result is a strong, beautiful, functional, and long-lasting full set of teeth.

Am I A Candidate for All-On-4 Implants?

The best way to know if you’re a candidate for All-On-4 in Lexington is to come into our office for a consultation. One of our implant experts will carefully examine your mouth, the condition of your oral health, and the strength of your jawbone before developing your personalized treatment plan. However, the typical All-On-4 candidate will:

  • Be missing most or all of their teeth
  • Have a strong enough jawbone to accommodate implants
  • Have a healthy mouth without infection or other issues
  • Be interested in a healthy, long-term replacement solution

What Are the Benefits of All-On-4 Implants?

We offer All-On-4 to our patients because of these unique benefits:

  • Patients receive multiple implants with only one surgery.
  • In most cases, bone grafting isn’t required because we place the implants in the strongest part of your jawbone.
  • All-On-4 can restore your entire smile, even if you’ve lost your teeth years ago.
  • Dental implants preserve your jawbone, preventing deterioration after tooth loss.
  • The All-On-4 procedure can cost less than traditional dental implants.
  • You can enjoy a strong and sturdy denture that won’t slip when you talk, chew, or smile.

All-On-4 VS Traditional Dental Implants

All-On-4 is best for patients who need full smile replacements, whereas traditional dental implants can be used to replace a single tooth, support dental bridges, and even replace nonconsecutive missing teeth. If you’re wondering which option is best for you, contact us today! Your dentist in Lexington will look over your smile before making the best recommendation for your needs.

All-on-4 FAQs

While there are many ways to replace teeth via dental implants, we understand if you aren’t sure which solution will best suit your needs. At Dental Wellness of Lexington, we want to make sure you are as informed as possible when it comes time to discuss your tooth replacement options, including All-on-4. Below, we’ve included a handful of the most common questions we hear at the practice for your convenience. If your question is not mentioned, feel free to inquire during your dental implant consultation or at your next routine checkup.

Does All-on-4 feel comfortable?

Unlike traditional dentures, which have a tendency to push down on your gum tissue and have the potential to cause discomfort, All-on-4 relies on a series of dental implants to withstand regular chewing and biting forces day-to-day. This means they will not only look incredibly natural as part of your smile, but feel natural as well. With that said, you’ll still need to maintain regular checkups at our office to ensure no problems are present with your complex tooth replacement.

Will my smile look natural with All-on-4?

One of the main benefits of All-on-4 (as well as dental implants in general) is just how natural-looking they look after they’ve been placed. Not only are the materials we use designed to match your existing tooth enamel and gum tissue, but the restorations attach directly to the implants, ensuring they do not slip out of place. All-on-4 restorations are generally fixed, which means they are not typically removable once they are placed. Instead, they are only removed by one of our dentists.

Can I eat my favorite foods confidently after treatment?

Yes, but only once the implants have had a chance to fully heal. You’ll receive a temporary denture the same day the implants are placed, but you’ll also need to maintain a liquid/soft diet for a set period of time to avoid too much pressure on your implants. After enough time has passed and we’ve confirmed your implants have fully healed inside of your bone and soft tissue, you should be able to eat just about any food you want with confidence.

What does at-home care look like with All-on-4?

All-on-4 dental implants may use ceramic crowns to replace teeth, but you will still need to perform daily at-home brushing and flossing. With that said, removing food debris from underneath the All-on-4 restoration is easier when using either an interdental floss tool or a water flosser. You’ll also need to visit our office for a professional cleaning once every six months.

How long does All-on-4 last?

Just like traditional dental implants, All-on-4 dental implants are designed to last for many decades at a time. Most data shows that All-on-4 last 20 years or longer. While the dental implants are unlikely to need replacement, you’ll need to take care of your restoration to make it last. For example, you should never use it as a tool (such as to open packaging or bottles.)
